Be Prepared

A disaster, natural or man-made, can strike at any time. Some disasters can be anticipated while others can catch an entire region completely off guard. However, even foreseen disasters can be much more intense than expected. The wise course is to prepare for the unexpected.

Though most have likely read articles and seen videos indicating how to prepare for a disaster, the question that seems to come up often is: “How do I get started?” This guide will be helpful in preparing for a disaster event. All of the recommended items have been obtained and tested. Many are items I keep in my own “Go Bag” and am confident will prove useful if needed during an emergency.

There is no “one size fits all” emergency solution. Everyone needs to analyze what could possibly go wrong in their region and prepare accordingly. For example, if you live in an area that is prone to flooding, the type of water filtration you would need is different from someone who lives in a more mountainous rural zone. The researched solutions offered on this site attempt to address some of those situations though everyone is responsible for determining what will be necessary in their own back yard.

In my book there are two ways to go about obtaining a Go-Bag…

  • Buy it already made and let someone else decide what you need…or
  • Custom build it to what you can best anticipate will be needed in your zone.

Either of these solutions are acceptable and better than the option of having nothing and being the guy in the news scrambling to get out with an ill-packed Hefty bag. Personally, I chose option 2.
